Teen Fashion Innovators Search

The Art Institutes and ELLEgirl magazine proudly announce the first annual Art Institutes' "Teen Fashion Innovators Search," a fashion scholarship competition for high school seniors across the US and Canada.

Scholarships totaling $230,000 will be awarded on local and national levels.

One national winner in Fashion Design and one winner in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising will be selected to receive full scholarships, each worth more than $30,000, to study at The Art Institute school of their choice from 16 locations offering fashion programs across North America.

"Design classes in high schools have become career incubators, giving students the opportunity to hone in on what they're most interested in, whether it's fashion design, patternmaking or textile design," said Bruce Dempsey, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs for The Art Institutes.

"From there they can grow that interest at design school, and turn their passion and hard work into a successful and rewarding career."

In addition to winning full scholarships, the grand prize-winning students will attend the February 2006 New York Fashion Week fashion shows with ELLEgirl editors, as well as be featured in the magazine.

Teen Fashion Trend -Leggings and footless tights

High Heels
OK, we are in two minds about this one. If you are going for a total retro ‘80s vibe then leggings with heels can work for you. Where you want to avoid heels and leggings is when teamed with mini skirts. That’s just a bit too retro ‘80s skanky in our books. But if you worship the heel, then team leggings with a skirt or dress that is just above or below the knee.

Shorts
Like the mini, footless tights can work really well with shorty shorts. Steer clear of teaming heels with this look as you could end up channelling Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman! Opt for cute ballet flats.

Flowing, summer dresses
Those gorgeous, floaty summer frocks that scream lightness absolutely do not work with footless tights – the contrast is far too great to pull off.

Shirt Dress
The shirt dress is another big trend this summer and looks great teamed with footless tights. The tights give this dress style another dimension.
